The Punjab government has decided to recruit 4,000 teachers in government colleges. Posts for lecturers, assistant professors, associate professors, and professors in 795 government colleges of Punjab are vacant for the last 6 years. Government colleges are facing severe problems of a shortage of faculty members.
The Department of Higher Education gave preliminary approval for recruitment to the posts and sent a summary to the Chief Minister’s Office. The recruitment process shall be completed through Punjab Public Service Commission. PPSC shall issue the advertisement in this regard soon and shall conduct the required tests and interviews for the posts of lecturers, assistant professors, and associate professors.
Punjab Government has been trying to overcome the shortage of faculty members in government colleges for since long. Last year, College teaching interns were recruited to temporarily overcome the shortage. But this process only proved successful for a short period of time, as senior faculty members are needed to teach the specialized subjects. Now the decision is made to hire the teachers on a permanent basis. Secretary Higher Education Nadeem Mehboob said that an application would be made to the Punjab Public Service Commission for recruitment to the vacant posts. Vacancies are being filled in all government colleges in Punjab.
