The Punjab government has decided not to close educational institutions while tackling future outbreaks in the province.

During a recent meeting of senior officials of education and health departments, Minister for Higher Education, Raja Yasir , said that due to the closure of educational institutions as a result of the Coronavirus outbreak, an entire academic year has been lost which adversely affected more than 40 million students from class 1 to Ph.D., forcing 9 million students to give up education.

While the provincial government is making efforts to bring the academic system back on track, it will take students another year to make up for the educational loss caused last year.

Secretary Primary and Secondary Healthcare, Usman Younis, briefed the meeting that 19 new Coronavirus testing laboratories capable of conducting 23,000 tests daily have been established in the province.
