Federal Minister for Education Shafqat Mehmood announced the opening of educational institutions across the country as usual from March 1. He announced that the 50 percent policy in schools shall end on February 28, and announced to open school five days a week as usual. Education Minister Shafqat Mahmood has said that educational institutions across the country will be open five days a week and the decision will be applicable to all educational institutions.
On Twitter, Shafqat Mehmood announced that all schools, colleges, universities would resume their regular 5-day classes from Monday 1st March 2021. However, it is important to note that in some major cities, schools are only allowed to conduct staggered classes till February 28, 2021. According to Shafqat Mehmood’s statement, this decision applies to all educational institutions that were imposed with Coronavirus restrictions.
In addition to this, he reiterated and clearly stated that all educational institutes have to comply with and observe normal Covid-19 Standard operating procedures (SOPs) like regular hand washing, maintaining a 6-feet physical distance from others, wearing proper masks.
NCOC: Decision to resume in person classes
At the start of January 2021, the National Command and Operation Center (NCOC) deliberated and reached the conclusion that students in Karachi, Lahore, Hyderabad, and Peshawar would resume classes on alternate days with 50% class strength to reduce crowding in classrooms and decrease the risk of Coronavirus spreading – this decision was made considering the high number of Coronavirus cases such cities.
The education sector was allowed to reopen from 1st February 2021 with strict compliance of Coronavirus SOPs and the NCOC recommendation to educational institutes to conduct staggered classes.
